No parent, no school, and no training can ever prepare you for seeing the girl you loved so much become a serial killer.

I love her. I fucking do. I didn't confess because we had known each other for a few months.

Delvina Chase. I knew she would be my salvation. How could I have ever thought that she would be my damnation?

A bulldozer ran on me. Or it felt like it when I saw her on the rooftop. The shock was still buzzing in my head.

Her. How could it be her?

In the afternoon, a few hours before, we went out for lunch before I kissed her and parted ways. I grinned like an idiot all the way to the police station, all because of her.

And now, I am here in the police station, leaning against the wall, feeling like I could collapse any second now.

A matter of hours, and my life tumbled into the darkest pit.

"West, Deputy is calling you in", Callahan pats my back. He looks apologetic at the mess I have become. He is only seeing the shock in my face, not the twisting pain in my lungs, the raging fire burning in my veins, because I love her.

"I’ll be there."

Taking a swig from the water bottle crushed in my hand, I brace myself and make my way to the hallway where I saw her last.

Deputy Alonso is right outside, going through a file with Oris. When she sees me coming towards her, she has the audacity to smile.

"There’s my brave detective." She pats my shoulder, and I hate it. I was supposed to be happy when I caught the killer. We slaved for months over her arrest, but now that the moment is here, I can't. I fucking can’t right now.

"You called for me?"

"Yes, I did."

She sends Oris away before turning to me. "I want you to be in the interrogation room with me."

"Excuse me?"

"The higher ups are here. They want me to interact with her so we can establish a boundary with her before we proceed on with the investigation."

My heart tumbles. I can't handle seeing her so soon. Not when I got her arrested three hours ago.

But answers. I needed answers.

So I nodded curtly.

"Good. Let's go, West." She encourages me with her eyes as she steps forward and twists the lock on the door.

Delvina comes into my clear vicinity. Her head is high.

From the pick pocketer to the offender, all of them accepted their defeats when the cuffs fell on their hands.

But not Delvina. She held herself proud and alert.

My heart aches at her sight. I wanted to rip the cuffs off her hands and hug her. I wanted to scream at her and fucking kiss her.

When she sees me, the stoic face fails. A flurry of emotions flooded her face.

I feel them too.

The pain, the fear, the betrayal.

She betrayed me, and I betrayed her.

She hurt me, and I hurt her.
